The flowering of the blue poppies is spread over approximately one month, from the end of June to the end of July. It usually reaches its peak in the first two weeks of July.

Les Jardins de Métis is administered by Les Amis des Jardins de Métis, a not-for-profit corporation recognized as a charitable organization. This organization is responsible for the preservation and development of the Métis Gardens.

Several books have been written by the great-grandson of Elsie Reford and current director of the Gardens, Alexander Reford.                       The Jardins de Métis guide (Les Éditions de L'Homme, 2005) presents both the history and the horticultural riches of this domain.                       The book Jardins de Métis: The Paradise of Elsie Reford (Les Éditions de l'Homme, 2004) draws a portrait of the development of the Jardins de Métis.                       This book is illustrated with historical images as well as photographs of Louise Tanguay. Les belles de Métis: The Floral Heritage of Elsie Reford                       (Les Éditions de l'Homme, 2006), presents the celebrities of the collection of gardens such as the famous blue poppy, gentians, ferns,                       Peonies, peonies, lilies, roses, primroses, azaleas and sanguinaires. The book brings a complete portrait with                       Archives of photographs and documents. Since 2000, the International Garden Festival is a unique event in North America held annually at the Jardins de Métis site, from the end of June until the site closes.

The Festival is a must-see for all lovers of nature and culture who want to discover contemporary gardens made by renowned designers from around the world. Numerous entertainment activities on the theme of the garden (Workshops, conferences, exhibitions, shows, etc.) are added to the presentation of the contemporary gardens to complete the Festival's programming.

No, you can visit the Gardens without any reservation. However, groups of 15 or more must contact us to make a reservation.

The visit of the gardens generally takes between 1 hour 30 and 3 hours. The visit of the International Garden Festival takes about 1 hour.

The trails cover 1.6 kilometers (1 mile).

Yes. Some wheelchairs are available free of charge for visitors. However, it is recommended that you reserve an armchair before your visit by calling 418 775-2222. The Garden Trails are covered with compacted gravel, which makes them relatively easy to traverse. On the site, ramps facilitate access to the buildings. However, the museum, located on the first floor of Villa Estevan, is only accessible by using a staircase. As a result, it is less accessible to people with disabilities and reduced mobility.

Raincoats and umbrellas are available free on site, in limited quantities.

The guided tour is available for groups of 15 or more, upon reservation only. The cost is $ 25 per guide and includes a visit to the Historic Gardens and the International Garden Festival. One guide per group of 25 people is recommended.

Animals are not allowed inside the historic gardens or on the Festival site. The presence of pets is permitted only in the parking lot.

The restaurant of the Villa Estevan offers a table d'hôte lunch from Monday to Saturday, theme nights as well as a Sunday brunch, sometimes musical: watch our calendar of events. There are many pleasures that can be enjoyed around the gardens. Within a radius of 10 kilometers, discover the Mitis River Park, art centers, inns, good restaurants, two golf courses, an equestrian center and a thalassotherapy center. The natural beauty of the area and the presence of several sites of interest will allow visitors to discover the pleasures of salmon fishing, ornithology as well as walks on the shore of the majestic St. Lawrence River.
